Children are a vital part of the life of St. Philip’s and have been since this church’s very beginning. Our parish is very much a family community where people of all ages worship each Sunday morning.

We have a room, known as Noah’s Ark, for very young children (babies and up to about 2 years old) to go with their parents, in which they can observe the service but also be free to move around a little more.

We have an active Church School (Sunday School) program during the 9:30am Sunday Service. The kids have a special time of focus in the worship before they go to their classes and return in time to receive Communion with their parents. Our Church School coordinators, Nancy Kwasnicki and Terryn Naumann, organize the registration of the children and structure of the classes. We have three different age groups (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, Grade 1-3 and Grades 4-7).

Our church facilities allow us to have plenty of room for Church School Classes. We have two Pre-Schools that use our facilities during the week and we use theirs on Sunday mornings. We have a gym to allow for children to play and larger events to gather. We also have a bowling alley (!!) which is used regularly as a fun area for kids.

We also have a number of dedicated volunteer Church School teachers who guide the children through a curriculum. Children are encouraged to grow in their knowledge and faith in God. They are encouraged to understand more about God’s love for them and how they are to share that in their lives. They are invited to question, to wonder, to appreciate. Parents are invited to observe the classes, if they wish, or to let their children enjoy this time while parents attend the worship service.

Once a month (usually the first Sunday of the month) we have an "Intergenerational Service" where the children remain in church and take part in the worship at the 9:30 service. There is usually a drama and special music provided by our "Band."

The most vital part of the life of St. Philip’s is its community. We find that children quickly enjoy becoming part of this wonderful church family. They grow up with the parish and as they grow and develop there is something to help them in their faith journey all the way along. A church is one of the few places in this day and age where people of all ages mix together for activities. This is part of the life of St. Philip’s and also why children are such a vital part.
