What We Believe

St. Philip’s is an inclusive and caring community. We are an Anglican Church, part of the Anglican Communion, connected and related to the Church of England.

Over many years of history the Anglican Church has developed a wide range of Christian beliefs. There have been labels attached to some of these to try and describe some of the history. We have had evangelicals and high church and liberal and conservative, protestant and catholic.

St. Philip’s has a wide range of backgrounds and theologies (how we would describe God) within our parish. It is hard to define us completely but we are Christian (in that we follow Christ) but we very much trust in a balanced approach to our faith: holding together Scripture, Reason and Tradition.

St. Philip’s takes a thinking Christian approach to its faith and encourages parishioners to use their minds and experience to engage their faith. We trust in God’s love and God’s grace shown to us in the life of Jesus Christ and revealed to us in the work of the Holy Spirit. We believe that God’s love is relevant to us today and invites us to live the abundant life of seeking God’s presence each and every day to guide and uphold us. We are a community of people on a journey of faith.
