Funerals
When someone we love dies, we often do not know where to turn or what to do. Grief and shock and confusion can hit us. St. Philip’s clergy are available for pastoral care during the illness of a loved one and also in the event of a death. Please contact them through the church office (604-224-3238)
Funerals themselves do need some planning. They can be very simple or involve a number of people. The intent of a funeral or memorial service is to acknowledge our loss and grief. They are about celebrating a life but also acknowledging our own emotions. The clergy of the parish will help in your planning and will try to create a liturgy that best represents the life of the person. It will follow the liturgy of the Anglican Church of Canada and focus on giving thanks to God for the life of the loved one.
The subject of death and dying is a difficult one in our society but more and more individuals are realizing it is important to plan a funeral or memorial service well before the event. It can be of great help to the family and also remove some stress at the time of a death. If you would like to talk to a clergy-person about a funeral or memorial service please contact them.
Your pastoral care is an important part of St. Philip’s community.
