Music at St. Philip's

St. Philip’s has a wonderful tradition of music connecting to liturgy. The choir and the congregation, Accompanied by the beautiful Memorial Pipe Organ, or the grand piano, the congregation and choir sing a diverse variety or music enthusiastically and well. Three or four time a year the professional ensemble musica intima join us for a traditional Choral Evensong; this is always well attended and very much appreciated.

The Memorial Organ
The Pipe Organ, a three manual Casavant, fills the church with sound. A good solo instrument it also supports the congregational singing beautifully. Recently, the parish raised funds to add more pipes to the instrument and to improve its tonal quality.

The Choir
The choir consists of twenty five singers who are energetic and dedicated.  The love the traditional church music, and also happily sing the latest compositions.  A choral tradition at St. Philip’s is the singing of a special concert on Remembrance Day.

The Band
The band is a group of young players who support the choir or the cantor and congregation on a monthly basis, and for special services. Instruments include guitars (electric and acoustic), bass guitar, piano, organ, flute, viola, ‘cello and percussion.

Congregational Singing
Everyone enjoys singing the hymns and service music.

New musicians are always welcome in the choir and band. Please contact the Music Director, Michael Murray, at 604 224 3238, for more information.
