Mary Lymburner was nominated by Conrad Guelke as a Hidden Hero of Joyce Murray’s Vancouver Quadra riding. Mary was selected because of her tremendous gifts to St Philip’s, especially in Outreach.

There will be a public recognition Saturday June 22 at 12:30 at the Point Grey Fiesta Days – Main Stage

Nomination by St. Philip's

Dr. Mary Lymburner is a retired physician who strengthens needy people to face challenges of many kinds. St. Philip’s Anglican Church in Dunbar became her church community as she and her husband raised their three children. Central to her active faith, Mary’s ministries at St Philip’s have ranged from Sunday School teacher to Parish Warden, but Outreach work epitomizes Mary’s humble dedication to others. Mary’s patience and tenacity make her an invaluable volunteer. She plays crucial roles in the parish’s refugee sponsorship and serves on the Refugee Unit of the Lower Mainland’s Anglican Diocese. She has been instrumental in St. Philip’s three refugee sponsorships, especially the current sponsorship of a large Syrian refugee family spanning three generations. She also works with the West Side Neighbourhood Street Ministry run by four Anglican churches whose volunteer teams visit, feed, support and tend to vulnerable people living homeless or newly housed on the West Side. Mary knows that vulnerable people live in every postal code, including the West Side. She meets and accepts people as they are, uses her resources to improve their lives, and draws deeply on her dedication, positivity, knowledge, experience and stamina. Mary Lymburner is indeed a Hidden Hero.

Acknowledgement by Joyce Murray

To St Philip’s:
Thank you for taking the time to nominate outstanding volunteers to receive my Hidden Heroes awards this year. My adjudication team and I were deeply impressed by the diversity of experiences and backgrounds amongst this year’s nominees, and I can assure you that it was very difficult to select the awards recipients when we had so many talented, dedicated individuals nominated. It only shows how lucky we are to have such committed volunteers quietly performing important work that improves our community.

I will be publicly recognizing our 2019 Hidden Heroes at Vancouver’s Point Grey Fiesta on June 22, and I invite you to join me in celebrating their achievements with our community:

  • Where: Point Grey Fiesta Days – Main Stage
  • When: 12:30 PM
  • Date: Saturday, June 22
  • What: Publicly recognizing the important yet often under-acknowledged work these individuals do to better our Vancouver Quadra community
Please join me in congratulating Vancouver Quadra’s 2019 Hidden Heroes
