The purpose of the Pastoral Care Ministry is to assist the clergy in support of the congregation in Body, Mind and Spirit

At St. Philip’s this includes the following:

Greeters:  Lead, Debbie Matheson

Greeters are the first contact as people enter the church on Sunday morning. They are responsible for welcoming all and introducing newcomers to a member of the Newcomer committee.

Newcomers:  Lead, Marg Lemire

Members of the Newcomers group make visitors and new folk feel welcome by making introductions, answering questions about liturgy etc. and inviting or accompanying them to coffee after the service

Senior Fellowship:  Lead, Janet Brown

The Friendship Circle (formerly, Jones Girls) meets in the Fireside Room at noon on the first Sunday of the month for social interaction & fellowship

Visiting:  Lead, Janet Brown

Visitors assist the clergy in visiting parishioners in Care Facilities and those who are unable to attend services. They may take Communion as requested.

In addition to visiting, assistance may be given in help to navigate the health care system, attending medical appointments as a “second ear,” and arranging rides to appointments.

Prayer Team (including Emergency Prayers:  Lead, Daphne Francis

The prayer team consists of a group of parishioners who hold those on the prayer list in their daily prayers. In addition this team prays for those who have asked for “private, confidential prayer “ These prayers are confidential to the prayer team and are not published in the bulletin or read out at worship.

On occasion there are emergency prayers requested at which time the prayer team is alerted to begins prayers immediately.

When submitting a request, please give first and last names to avoid duplication. Only first names are made public. Also, provide the name and contact information of whomever is placing the request. A brief description of the reason for prayer may be added and will only be known to the prayer team.

We have plans to introduce the following in the fall of 2025:

  • Healing Prayer
  • Healing Touch
  • Casserole Ministry (providing small meals to be taken when visiting)
