Our June 15th book sale offered popular fiction and non-fiction for readers of all ages. By 10:00 AM, an expectant queue chatted happily in the sunny courtyard, knowing they were the early birds who get the best choices. Over 95 shoppers bought books, some with a friend, their mum, their partner, or a whole family in tow. According to our shoppers, our book sale has a solid reputation as the best church book sale there is: well organized, friendly, affordable, well-stocked, and a site for peaceful browsing, complete with pews and a sofa. Lots of readers opened their new books before they even left St Philip's.
A team of Venturer Scouts put up the heavy tables on Wednesday evening, and volunteers, in 51 two- to three-hour shifts, put on the sale from set up on Thursday and Friday to clean up on Saturday. (See the final silly selfie of the clean-up team when we were punch drunk with fatigue.) Extra books were packed off to Big Brothers, for their benefit.
We raised over $2,000 from the sale of our local community's donated books, priced at $2 and $5, and raised community spirits while we were at it.
Tell all your friends and bring them with you next time. Thank you, donors, shoppers and volunteers!
The pictures help tell the story. Enjoy.
